My Sewing Machines

I have three best friends in sewing, all from Janome/New Home.

Here’s my main work-horse, a Janome Travel-Mate that I bought in 2002. It’s a very basic model sewing machine and was the only one I had when I started alterations as a business. A large portion of the alterations are done here. With regular servicing, it has rarely given me any trouble, and is just plain easy to use.

The next machine is a New Home Memory Craft from my grandmother that she bought in the ‘90s. This one is quiet, has all sorts of embroidery functions, and often is set up as I jump from project to project. It’s a great machine!

My newest best friend—oh, do I love this one—is a Janome Serger (a.k.a. overlocker) 8002D. I went for years without a serger, and now I don’t know what I’d do without one! This is a basic model, and I use it constantly.

A word of warning: if you’re in the market to buy a machine, you’ll be best off going to a sewing/vacuum store. They know what they’re selling, and they service their products. You’ll pay more than at Walmart or JoAnn’s, but it’s WORTH every penny to buy a better machine.
